Yahoo and Sprint work together on Yahoo Mail Mobile

Sprint and Yahoo will soon launch a downloadable Yahoo Mail client application to offer users nationwide enhanced access on mobile devices.

Sprint operates one of the largest 100-percent digital, nationwide wireless network in the United States. Yahoo Mail is one of the leading web mail services - a lethal combination.

Yahoo Mail for Mobile client application gives users access to their Yahoo! Mail account through a PC-like interface on a mobile device. The service allows consumers with select Sprint PCS Vision(SM) handsets to sign into and manage their Yaho! Mail account from their phone, including, easy message management and access to their Yahoo! Address Book.

The Yahoo Mail client also gives Sprint customers storage for their e-mail on their handset, which means they can access their previously downloaded messages even when a data connection is not available.

Consumers with certain Sprint PCS Vision handsets can use it to sign into and manage their Yahoo! Mail account from their mobiles. Yahoo! and Sprint initially announced an agreement to offer Yahoo!’s content and services to Sprint PCS Wireless Web subscribers in June of 1999.

Yahoo Mail Mobile is priced at $2.99 a month, and can be purchased directly from the handset and will be charged on their monthly wireless bill. Sprint and Yahoo say that an optional feature of the Yahoo! Mail client is instant notification of new messages – standard text messaging rates will apply.

“The Yahoo Mail client also gives Sprint customers storage for their e-mail on their handset, which means they can access their previously downloaded messages even when a data connection is not available,” say the two companies.
